Lumecca’s higher energy levels mean the targeted lesions absorb more light and react more strongly to the treatment. As a result, Lumecca patients may only require one or two treatments compared to the four to six treatments that are commonly required with other IPL devices.

Lumecca utilises a technology called selective photothermolysis. This means that specific wavelengths of light are used to target and heat specific chromophores (colour-absorbing molecules) in the skin without causing harm to surrounding tissues.

Prior to the treatment, your provider will assess your skin and discuss the targeted areas. We will then cleanse your skin thoroughly to ensure it’s free of any makeup, skincare products and natural oils. You will put on protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the bright light of the device. 

During the treatment, your provider will methodically move the Lumecca handpiece over the targeted areas. You will feel a sensation similar to a light snap or flick on your skin, accompanied by the device’s cooling touch. It is generally well-tolerated without numbing creams or anaesthesia.

The Lumecca IPL treatment typically takes just 30 minutes, making it a convenient choice for those with busy lifestyles.

Following your Lumecca IPL treatment, you may observe some redness and temporary darkening of pigmented spots, which will gradually flake off over two to three days. During this time, we recommend avoiding direct sunlight and heat-inducing activities to promote a smooth recovery.

For a day or two post-treatment, avoid using harsh skincare products, including exfoliants or acidic formulations. Opt for gentle, soothing products that are kind to your skin, and keep your skin well-hydrated both internally and externally. Drinking plenty of water and using a hydrating moisturiser will support the recovery process.
